I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from
the Adler School of Professional Psychology, the oldest independent school
of psychology in North America. I completed my practicum at Simon Fraser
University where I received excellent clinical supervision and experience
working with a range of issues. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of British Columbia and have also taken undergraduate psychology
courses at the University of Victoria. As a life-long learner, I continue to
enhance my counselling skills through reading and training programs. I
recently completed additional training in emotionally-focused therapy for
couples, sexual abuse intervention and nonviolent crisis intervention.
EXPERIENCE
I have many years of experience working with people from diverse
socio-economic and cultural backgrounds in a variety of settings, including
community agencies and counselling centres. In addition to my work as a
counselling associate, I have worked as a crisis line volunteer, lay
counsellor, hospice volunteer, university counsellor, crisis intervention
worker, career counsellor and communications consultant. I have worked with
people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief,
transitions, relationship concerns, addictions and career and life planning.
TREATMENT ORIENTATION
I believe that clients are able to grow and develop and
that people have inner resources that I can help them to access. I know it
is possible for people to change and make different choices. As a
counsellor, I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where
people can be themselves. I listen closely and try to understand different
perspectives. I may comment on what I hear and see or ask thought-provoking
questions. I integrate a number of approaches into my work, including
person-centred, Adlerian, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, family
systems and emotionally-focused therapy for couples.
I try to bring the qualities of warmth and compassion to
all of my sessions. I look forward to meeting you. To make an appointment please call 604 687-7171.
What is discussed

-
The therapist is legally required to
report to law enforcement agencies if there is a possibility of harm
to self or others.
-
The therapist is required to report
to child protection authorities if suspecting that a child may be

STATEMENT ON THE
LIMITS OF CONFIDENTIALITY
All counselling is strictly confidential.
Records related to your psychotherapy or counselling; or even the fact that
you are a client, are only to be released to others with your written permission, or by a court order. You are entitled to privacy and to
expect that all communication and records related to your service are kept
confidential. You may expect to be fully informed as to any written material
sent out on your behalf.
There are exceptions to this contract of
confidentiality; your therapist is required by law to report to the proper
authorities in the case of child abuse (if a person who is a child is being
hurt or is in danger), or if there is any possibility of a suicide or
homicide, and if your reports are subpoenaed by a Court.
Our Clinical Staff participate in regular
group supervision meetings. During Supervision, cases may be reviewed in a
confidential and non-identifying manner. Review of cases helps to ensure
that our clinicians are providing you with the most effective psychotherapy.
